First Breath After Coma

The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place

I wanted to share one of my favorite songs of all time, “First Breath After Coma” by Explosions in the Sky. It’s from their album The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place, which is absolutely gorgeous. My favorite part is right after the 3 minute mark.

To be honest, I can’t remember when I was first introduced to Explosions in the Sky. Their music was likely by sent to me by some benevolent file sharer over Audiogalaxy, which I used to p2p steal music back in high school (I’ve gone legit since then). My first exposure to them was definitely “Greet Death,” off their Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever album.

You’ve likely heard their music and didn’t know it. They supplied the soundtrack to the movie Friday Night Lights (picked because they’re from the area the movie is set in), and I believe have also contribute to the television show’s soundtrack (though I’m not positive). It’s all instrumental, and at times seems to be move like classical music with movements as opposed to pop music with hooks.

I’ve seen them several times in concert, and the best way to describe it is “spiritual.” Their show is intense and moving, and they always seem too short. I could gush and gush and gush about these guys, but I’ve probably said enough. Give the song a listen, and if you like it, hop on over to their iTunes page and check some more of their music out. They also have a new album coming out this month called Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (www.explosionsinthesky.com).

Making Music

I’ve been working on recording some new music with Steph. And while our current major project isn’t ready to be heard yet, here is a little riff I’ve been developing. Enjoy!
