“Which New Testament Church do you want to restore? Corinth? I hope not!”

That's really funny and an appropriate response. Which indeed.

I remember a prof of mine talking about "restoring" the New Testament Church. He asked, "Which New Testament Church do you want to restore? Corinth? I hope not!" I still think about that when someone talks about the first believers as if they had no issues. If they hadn't had issues, we wouldn't have any of the Epistles because they all address issues. Six chapters into the Book of Acts and you already have one segment of the Church accusing another of not meeting the needs of their widows. It just goes on from there.

They're 50% off at Mardel right now. Good opportunity to buy in bulk to get them out of circulation. Of course, that might make the publisher think there's a greater demand so that just make more.

Love the video. This is kind of how I feel about Rob Bell:

Rob Bell's whole shtick is about asking, "Does your whole faith fall apart if one thing turns out not to be the way you thought it was." We all (well, maybe some) praised him for this kind of thinking when we were reading Velvet Elvis, and it was just about talking about having this kind of thinking. But as soon as his trajectory took us out over really unfamiliar and uncomfortable waters we were all, "Hey, where are you going, buddy?"

I like that Rob Bell asks the questions. I also like that we start talking about things from new angles because of it. I also like what Chan said, which you very clearly articulated (thanks). Because looking, searching, and questioning should be a part of our faith, but knowing that we cannot know and understand everything should also be there too.

Thanks, PJ.
